What You Are About To Read Is The Opinion Of The Author

I do not like these so-called “Commandments” because I believe them to be very misleading.

The Commandments of Jashinism are:
1. Never leave a sacrifice alive
2. No man made pleasures (alcohol, sex, drugs, etc)
3. Your children must be Jashinist
4. The only way to leave Jashinism is to commit suicide
5. Enjoy pain, understand pain, and live life without fearing pain
6. Deprivation and sacrifice are good ways to show devotion, do it often

There is one more, but I omitted it because I could sum up two commandments in one. The actual fourth commandment was "once those who have committed themselves to Jashin, they cannot leave."

I believe that only a couple of these might be true commandments, however most of them are likely conjured by "Hidanists" - fanatics who have created their own form of the religion based on what they interpreted through Hidan, an anime character in the serialized manga Naruto written by Masashi Kishimoto, who is an overly exaggerated and grossly inaccurate version of what a Jashinist is. Hidan should not be used as a source when learning about Jashinism.

I find there are contradictions in these commandments, so I will tell you what I believe is meant by each of these.

NEVER LEAVE A SACRIFICE ALIVE
One of the biggest philosophies and rules in Jashinism are 'if one does not understand pain, one has no right to inflict that pain on others’. This rule is considered one of the greatest sins in Jashinism if it is broken. With that in mind, you cannot kill others unless you have died. Even if one is resuscitated after their heart stops beating, there is still the question as to whether that gives one the right to inflict death on others. All Jashinists are peaceful.  They strive for world peace through the mutual understanding of pain. We inflict pain on ourselves so we can physically (or emotionally for Innocents) understand why we should not inflict that pain on another or wish for it to be inflicted on another.  To experience death should be to not inflict death on others or wish death upon others.  For this reason, I believe this commandment might be created by Hidanists.

It is said, however, that there was once a prophet who was Chosen by Jashin because he was a Perfect Jashinist. This prophet was granted immortality by Jashin and was allowed to make human sacrifices and inflict pain on those who abuse pain for their own benefit. This prophet travelled the world, spreading the word about Jashin, until he was dismembered. His immortality was lifted upon his request. This prophet is the only know Perfect Jashinist to have existed.

Some believe this commandment was written specifically for the Chosen. If that is the case, it seems appropriate that Perfect Jashinists and imperfect Jashinists should have separate sets of commandments in order to avoid misinterpretations.

NO MAN MADE PLEASURES
I don’t have any particular issues with this commandment, but I do believe there are aspects to this which might confuse others. Doing drugs (that aren’t for medicinal purposes) and drinking alcohol are understandable sins.  Greediness is a big no-no in Jashinism. What can confuse a lot of people is the topic of sex and what is acceptable – and for those of you who feel too uncomfortable for this topic, just skip to the next commandment.

You must remain abstinent; You can only have sex with other Jashinists; You can have sex with atheists as long as it is out of love. If you’ve researched Jashinism, you’ll find a variety of opinions from those following the different interpretations of Jashinism. I’d like to pick at these for a moment and then express my opinion on which I believe belongs to our lost religion which is in the process of being rediscovered.

How do people get “no sex” from “no man made pleasures” when the next commandment states their children must be Jashinist? If Jashinism required abstinence, then there would be no need for a commandment regarding the faith of one’s children, for having children would not be encouraged. More so, if everyone in the world were to become Jashinist and live by this interpretation, the human population would become extinct. For these reasons, it is my opinion that “no earthly pleasures” does not mean you must remain abstinent.

I honestly believe that “you can only have sex with other Jashinists” and “you can have sex with atheists as long as it is out of love” is very much a matter of choice and opinion. If someone chooses one that is opposite of your opinion I do not believe it is right to criticize them. Because lust is a sin in Jashinism, I think it is perfectly fine to become intimate with anyone you wish as long as it is out of love.

THE ONLY WAY TO LEAVE JASHINISM IS TO COMMIT SUICIDE
“Till death do us part” applies to many, if not all things: memories, relationships (the ties you have with your enemies and your friends) – all things influence you, impact you, and are a part of you until you die. Once you commit to Jashin he brands your soul. Even if you begin to have doubts and lose your faith, he is still a part of you.

It might be a surprise, but Jashinism does not encourage or condone suicide. As a matter of fact, suicide is considered a sin. Death is not enforced on those wishing to leave the religion. This is a parting gift to deserters that remind them that they will never be free from their relationship with Jashin. This commandment is a polite way of Jashin telling you that you belong to him until you die.

Commandments are rules given to followers of a religion as guides to live by. I do not think this is suitable to be called a commandment and that this was thrown into the commandments by someone who didn’t grasp that this is not a rule to live by.

YOUR CHILDREN MUST BE JASHINIST
The only issue I have with this commandment is the way it is written. If your children grow up and decide to stray from Jashin, this commandment makes it sound like it is your sin if your children are not Jashinist. I offer “you must raise your children as a Jashinist” as an alternative.

ENJOY PAIN, UNDERSTAND PAIN, AND LIVE LIFE WITHOUT FEARING PAIN
I have no qualms with this commandment.  Pain is a gift from Jashin; Pain is a tool to help us understand one another. To inflict pain on and experience that pain yourself teaches you to not wish that pain upon another and it helps you empathize with those who already felt that pain.

Living life without a fear of pain gives you a greater will to live than those who fear pain, and by extension, fear death. Pain also prevents you from sacrificing because you fear change.

DEPRIVATION AND SACRIFICE ARE GOOD WAYS OF SHOWING DEVOTION, DO IT OFTEN
I don’t have much to say about this one.  I do think it can be expanded upon a bit more. There are more ways of showing devotion other than deprivation and sacrifice. There is also prayer and meditation.

I’ll better explain this commandment for those who are new to Jashinism or who are curious about Jashinism. Deprivation can mean depriving yourself of anything from food (to understand the pain of those who are starving) to human contact (to understand the pain of those who are lonely). All forms of deprivation bring you closer to becoming a Perfect Jashinist (one who understands all pain) which proves you are a loyal follower of Jashin. Fasting is thought to be one of the greatest ways to show devotion because it is thought to clear the body and mind and purge one of petty sins.

Any form of sacrificing shows greater devotion than deprivation because what you are sacrificing tends to be on a more personal level, such as the sacrificing of blood or even the sacrificing your spare time to volunteer. The more you sacrifice the less you have which shows you are unselfish. Greedy people don’t care if they hurt others. Sacrificing blood on at least a monthly basis is necessary for Blood Bound Jashinists. Sacrificing blood is also necessary for when you have sinned. Personally, I sacrifice blood whenever Jashin does good things for me. If he is going to have good things happen to me I want to give him something back.

It is encouraged that you deprive yourself and sacrifice often. Prayer and meditation are also forms of devotion and can be expressed out loud or as thoughts. The more you interact and talk with Jashin, the more bound you feel to him.

In conclusion, it appears to me that these commandments were influenced by Hidanists and/ or those who didn’t quite understand Jashin’s philosophies. Having said this, I feel I must offer an alternate set of commandments which I believe better express the ways of Jashinism.

1. Pain must be understood, enjoyed, and not feared
2. Do not indulge yourself with lust, greed, pride, sloth, gluttony, or artificial gratifications
3. Sacrifice, pray, meditate, and deprive yourself often
4. Your children must be raised as Jashinists
5. You have no right to inflict a pain you don't understand onto others

This concludes my opinion piece on the original commandments stated at the beginning of the work.
